In this challenge area, there's a deep pit with a small, L-shaped path made of spiked tiles on the right. Throw a spear into the wall on the other side of the pit, just to the left of the last spiked tile. (In the co-op game, Totec will throw the spear and Lara will do the running and jumping.)
Run across the spikes, triggering them behind you, and quickly jump onto the spear you just threw.
From your perch on the spear, after activating all the spikes, you can see that the gate on the left has opened. Wait for the spikes to retract.
Then hop down onto them and race back to the start.
With the barred alcove on the left now open, you can retrieve a Stone Lizard Artifact (- defense, + bomb).
