To access the training level, choose the polaroid snapshot in the first menu ring.
Taking Lara's tour through the training level is a good way to learn all the moves in a safe setting. There are some new controls to master for TR2 (for details, see the Controls and Strategy pages), so take a run through the assault course then a nice swim to cool off.
In the bedroom, you may notice a locked door with no key. You'll return here in the final level (see http://stellalune.com/TR2walk/2level17.html#hsh of the game; you'll have the key then. For now, you might want to familiarize yourself with the layout of the house and grounds so you'll have an easier time at the end of the game. And there are a few little secrets to be ferreted out even at this early stage.
Lara keeps the basement of her mansion loaded with the artifacts, idols, gold, treasure chests and other fun stuff she encounters in her adventures. The practice level in Tomb Raider II allows you to tour this trove of goodies. Here's what you have to do to check it out:
A couple things to remember. . . Whenever you have room enough ahead of you, jump as you run. This helps Lara cover ground more quickly. Keep an eye out for the butler. When you only have so many seconds to be someplace (about 74 seconds to make it to the treasure room door), he can be the one thing that trips you up. If possible, jump over the butler, if not go around him. If neither works, curse him and head back to the switch for another run. [Stella's note: You can also lure him into the refrigerator in the kitchen and shut him in. That'll keep him out of the way for a while.] Instructions and map by Abraxas. Used with permission. Corner BugYou can also use the Corner Bug, or "Jump Trick" to get to some hard-to-reach places in the training level. For instructions, visit my Useful Bugs page. |
