Grapple the top of the block near the metal ring and pull. If Lara does not automatically target the ring with the grapple, use manual aim mode.
When you pull from the top, the block falls with the rings on top and bottom, making it tall enough to use for a boost to the opening above the gate.
Do not pull the block out from the bottom, as shown above.
If you do this, it will land with the metal rings on the sides so it's too short to prop the gate open fully, and it will be more difficult to reach the opening above.
