TOMB RAIDER GBC: ROYAL TOMBS C
NOTE: Letter designations for switches (S#), doors (D#), save crystals (C#), etc., in the text refer to labels on the corresponding level maps. The switches are numbered to match their corresponding doors (e.g., switch 1 opens door 1, switch 3 extends ledge 3, etc.). All pickups are marked on the map (I hope). Enemies and hazards are noted in the walkthrough but not on the maps.
NOTE: Be sure to print this map using landscape (horizontal) orientation.
You enter the level on the left side of the map, just above the middle. Go right, hop down one level and roll past the pillar to find the first save crystal (C1). Climb the ladder ahead, past some dart traps. Shoot the mummy on the first ledge to the left from the ladder. Then jump over to the ledge to get heavy bullets and a small medipak. Take a running jump back to the ladder and climb to the top.
You can't reach the doorway ("D/G") at the top left corner yet, so continue across this level to the right. Watch out for the 2 falling boulders. When you reach the gap, take a running jump across and turn around to shoot the reaper on the ledge below and to the left. Climb down the ladder and to that ledge. Pick up 2 small medipaks at the left end of the hidden passage. Then climb or drop to the level below, where there's a big pile of bones.
(**) Go to the left. Shoot a bat and climb down two ladders, picking up rapid bullets on the landing between them.
Go left and shoot the ceiling switch (S1) to open the gold trapdoor (D1). Hang from the right side of the opening to attract the reaper below. Then pull up and shoot him from the above. Drop down and go to the left. Use the red switch (S2) to open a blue door (D2) above. Pick up dynamite and roll through the concealed tunnel to get some rapid bullets (2x). Return to the trapdoor and climb out.
Climb the ladder on the left wall and to the ledge with the blue door (D2) you just opened. Pick up heavy bullets and a large medipak. Take a running jump back to the ladder and climb down. Drop into the trapdoor opening (D1) again and this time head to the right.
Safety drop into the pit to avoid landing on one of the 2 snakes. Shoot both and continue to the right. The 3 gold trapdoors (D3) above the spike pit open when you approach. There are dart traps above, so carefully make the series of jumps across the pit. Pick up a small medipak on the other side and climb the ledge and ladder.
At the top on the right is a locked blue door (D12). You don't have the key yet, so jump across to the left. Use dynamite to blow up the gray door. The next pit contains 2 skeletons. If you safety drop down and immediately pull up, you can destroy the first without taking damage. Shoot the second and climb out on the left near a carved red door (marked "A" on the map). Go through to a new area.
You enter near the center of the map (through the carved gray doorway marked "A"). Above on the left and right are 2 blue doors (D4 and D5). Dart traps line the angled ceilings. Climb onto the ledge to the left, shoot a bat and use the red switch (S4) to open the blue door on the right. Climb up to that door. On the way, use the second red switch (S5) to open the blue door on the left. Behind the right blue door are a save crystal (C2) and a third red switch (S6). Use the switch to extend a ladder (L6) in the room above. Climb up the ledges on the left, shoot another bat and go through the blue door (D5) you just opened. Climb the ladder (L6) on the left wall.
At the top of the ladder, slide down the chute on the left (past some dart traps) to land on a ledge with a large medipak. Descend three ledges to the right and continue past a gold trapdoor (D7) to a red switch (S7) near a blue door (D8). Use the switch to open the gold trapdoor (D7) and go back to it.
Climb down the ladder and go to the left as far as you can. Climb the ladder and backflip onto a ledge with a red switch (S8). Use this to open blue door (D8a) above, as well as another gold trapdoor (D8b) you can't see yet. Climb down and go to the right. Roll under the ledge with the dart traps. Pick up some heavy bullets and load them up before climbing the wall. Shoot the reaper on the other side and then drop down. Use the red switch (S9) on the ledge above to extend a set of ledges (L9) in the room above.
Return to the left, climb back out through the trapdoor, and continue to the right to the now-open blue door (D8). Use save crystal (C3) and continue. The gold trapdoor (D8b) opens as you approach. There's a spike pit below, so jump over the opening.
Climb the purple ledges (L9). Shoot the reaper above from the second ledge. Jump to where the reaper was and climb onto the ledge above. Go to the left and climb the ladder. Shoot another reaper on the ledge above and backflip to land there. Climb the ladder on the right wall and then use the ceiling rungs to monkey swing across to the carved red doorway (marked "B" on the map). Use the red switch (S10) to open a trapdoor (D10) in the next area. Go through the doorway to emerge in another part of the same map. (The connecting door is also marked "B".)
Roll through the concealed tunnel to the right to get 2 small medipaks. Roll back to the doorway and climb up on the left side. Use the red switch (S11) there to open the gold trapdoor (D11) above. Go to the right and hop down into the pit to get the DOOR KEY (K). [NOTE: If the gold trapdoor (D10) above the key isn't open, go back through the red doorway ("B") and use the red switch (S10) near the other door.]
Once you have the DOOR KEY, go to the right, past the trapdoor where you climbed up before and down a couple of ledges. Take a running jump to grab the ladder (L6) on the left wall. Climb down to the bottom and go to the right until you're back at the carved red door (marked "A") where you entered this area. Go back through to the first map.
Royal Tombs C - Map 1 (again)
You re-enter this area near the center of the map (through the door marked "A"). Go to the right, jump the gap with the ladder below and continue right to the locked blue door (D12).
[NOTE: If you want all the pickups, check to see if you have dynamite. If not, make a detour to get some. Climb down the ladder and go to the right along this level as far as you can. You'll find some dynamite near the red switch (S2). Grab it and return the way you just came to the locked door.]
Use the DOOR KEY to open the locked blue door (D12). On the other side, you'll find a save crystal (C4).
Take a running jump to grab the ladder on the right wall and climb down this ladder and the next, passing several dart traps. Continue down and to the left, shooting 2 ceiling switches (S13a and b) as you go. These open a series of blue doors (D13a-c) in the hallway to the left. Go through the hallway, hop down and duck to avoid the darts and pick up a concealed large medipak. Continue to the left, down one ladder and up another (with more dart traps on both sides).
If you have dynamite use it to blow up the white floor tiles. Climb down the ladder. Shoot the skeleton that rises up from the bone pile to the right. Roll under the wall to the left and get dynamite and a small medipak. Climb back to the top and continue to the left.
Go through the carved red doorway (marked "C" on the map) to a new area.
You enter at the top right corner of the map. Use the ladders to climb over the wall ahead. Watch out for the dart traps. Run (or jump) over the white break-away tiles to avoid falling into the spike pit below. Beyond the spikes you'll find a save crystal (C5).
Slide down the long slope. Jump to clear the first spike pit and then jump again to grab the monkey bars and swing over to the left. Drop onto the small ledge with the lit brazier and shoot 2 bats. Then grab the rungs and monkey swing across another spike pit all the way to the right. Duck to avoid the dart trap and pick up rapid bullets, dynamite and a small medipak.
Use the bars on the ceiling to traverse back to the right past the small ledge. When Lara is about even with the burner on the wall, turn to face left (while still holding the bars). Now when you let go, she'll land on the slope facing downhill. Slide and jump to avoid the next spike pit. When you reach the small landing at the bottom carefully step to the left to avoid the dart trap. Then safety drop onto another slope below. Slide to the bottom and immediately run to the right to avoid falling through the white break-away tiles into another spike pit.
Continue to the right, past a closed gold trapdoor (D15). Shoot the mummy on the ledge above and climb up. Climb up one more level to save crystal (C6).
Pass over another gold trapdoor (D14), climb the ladder and backflip onto the ledge with the red switch (S14). Use this to open the trapdoor down below. Before climbing down, roll through the concealed tunnel to the left to get rapid bullets and a small medipak.
Climb down to the trapdoor and then climb down the ladder below the trapdoor. Go to the right and shoot the reaper on the ledge. Climb up where he was. Shoot 2 bats and then climb onto the ledge above. Use the switch (S15) there. Take a running jump across to the ledge on the left. Continue left, climb the ladder and backflip onto the ledge above. Climb over the low wall with the large medipak and heavy bullets. Drop down on the other (right) side, shoot the skeleton that awakens and use this second switch (S16).
Return down the ladder and ledges to the bottom level and backtrack to the left. Climb the two ladders, passing save crystal (C6) and red switch (S14) again. The gold trapdoor (D16) at the top of the second ladder should be open now. Climb through the opening and then climb the ladder on the left past the dart traps. Backflip to the ledge on the right where you'll find rapid bullets (2x) and a small medipak. Return down the two ladders to the save crystal (C6).
Go back to the left to the gold trapdoor (D15) between the two gold statues. It opens as you approach. Slide down the ramp to land in a room with 2 mummies. You can climb onto the ledge with the blue door (D17) to shoot them from safety.
Climb the ladder on the right to save crystal (C7). Load up those heavy bullets for the reaper in the pit ahead. When he's dead, cross the floor to the big statue and take the THIRD STAFF SEGMENT (SS). Now that you have all three, they'll combine to form the STAFF.
To get out, backtrack to the left to the blue door (D17), which opened when you took the STAFF SEGMENT. Behind it is the switch (S18) that opens the gold trapdoor (D18) near the big statue. Go back to the trapdoor, drop through the opening and go through the carved gold doorway (marked "D" on the map) to return to the first area.
Royal Tombs C - Map 1 (again)
You re-enter this area at the top left corner (through the doorway marked ("D/G" on the map). Take a running jump across the gap to the right. Continue across the top of this level to the right.
When you reach the gap with a lit brazier on each side, climb down the ladder on the left side and lit braziers, climb partway down the ladder, shoot the skeleton and pick up the small medipak in the pit to the right. Don't use the red switch (S19). It only activates a blade trap above. Climb back up the ladder and continue to the right.
Climb onto the ledge with the blades in the ceiling. These will not be activated unless you used the red switch in the room below. You can go back and turn them off now or go through them.
On the other side, hop down two levels to find a save crystal (C8). Shoot the mummy on the level below before hopping down. Go through the hidden passage to the left to get dynamite, rapid bullets and heavy bullets. Exit through the hidden passage and go to the right.
The blue door (D20) isn't open yet, so climb the ladder to the top and go right, killing a scorpion and a bat. At the right end of this ledge, go underneath to the left to find a red switch (S20). Use it to open the blue door (D20) in the previous room. Climb back up, backtrack to the left and climb down the ladder to the door. Use the red switch (S21) behind the door to extend a set of ledges (L21) in the next area. Climb back up, go to the left, hop down to the lower ledge and then safety drop to the first of the ledges you just extended.
Work your way down the ledges. Be careful not to fall into the field of spikes below. Shoot the mummy in the alcove on the left and jump over to it. Use the red switch (S22) to open another blue door (D22) halfway up the room with the thin ledges on the right. Climb back up there and get rapid bullets, dynamite and a large medipak.
Climb down the ledges to the bottom right. Safety drop off the right side of the lowest ledge to land in a clear spot at the edge of the spikes. From there drop into to the room below.
Head to left underneath the spike room. Shoot the scorpion in the pit and continue to the left to a carved red doorway (marked "E" on the map), which leads to a new area.
You enter this area at the top left corner near a save crystal (C9). Save and take one step to the right of the crystal. If you take a standing jump from that spot, Lara will take no damage as she falls down the shaft lined with spikes.
Surface for air and then swim down, past the first horizontal passage and into the next tunnel on the right. Swim along the bottom to snag a large medipak and heavy bullets and then swim straight up, past some dart traps, to an air pocket.
There are a number of electric eels and jellyfish in this area, which you should avoid if possible. I haven't mentioned them all.
Swim down and left to the main vertical shaft. Swim down along the left wall. On a shelf on the left side of the shaft, you'll find a small medipak. Grab it and swim back to the top for air if you need it. Otherwise, go for the rapid bullets on the shelf at the same height to the right.
Get air if you need it, and then swim back down to the same area. Under the shelf where you got the rapid bullets is a small passageway with dart traps top and bottom and a small medipak. Below on the right are more rapid bullets.
When you've made all the pickups swim diagonally up and right to another vertical shaft. Swim straight up and then left when the shaft splits. Here you'll find another air pocket.
From there, swim down and right a little to get back to the vertical shaft and then continue straight up. Stay close to the right wall and you'll come to another air pocket. Take a breath and then continue upwards. At the top, swim to the left and use the switch (S23) to open a blue door (D23) a bit farther on.
Swim back down the shaft, stopping for air in the side passages if necessary. At the bottom where the passage widens and starts to angle down to the left, swim to the right through the narrow horizontal opening.
On the other side is a small, squarish ledge with double dart shooters on top. Head straight up here, but stay out of the middle of the shaft to avoid these darts. Even so, Lara will probably get hit by some of the darts from the horizontal shooters lining the walls. At the top of the long shaft, the passage widens and there's a small room with a key and air pockets on either side. Get air and then swim down and take the DOOR KEY (K). The blue door on the left (D22) will be open if you used the switch (S22) earlier.
When you pick up the key, the blue door (D23) at the bottom center of the map opens. If you want all the pickups, wait to go there and instead continue with the walkthrough. If you don't care about getting everything, skip down to the *.
If you do want all the pickups, swim down the shaft from the key room. Where the shaft widens and you see the small ledge with double dart shooters on top, swim into the passage on the right. Pass the huge pile of bones and head upward along the right wall to another air pocket.
From there, continue upward. When the shaft forks, go to the right, swim over the small medipak on the bottom and then head straight up for air. Continue upward to another fork. Here the air pocket is on the left and there's another small medipak on a shelf to the right. Farther up the shaft is another switch (S24) but this only opens the other blue door near the key (D24). If you've already got the key, you don't need to bother with it. Swim back down to the big pile of bones, stopping for air if you need it. From the bone pile, swim to the left into the main vertical shaft.
(*) Swim straight down the vertical shaft to the bottom. Swim through the blue door (D23) on the right and follow the ceiling to the right until you can surface near a save crystal (C10). Now swim down and to the right, past another huge bone pile. Head up the shaft, picking up a large medipak and heavy bullets in the alcove on the right. More dart traps line the walls of this shaft. There's air at the top, along with another save crystal (C11) and a small medipak.
Climb onto the ledge on the right to awaken a skeleton. You can jump down and shoot it from below. Climb the ladder on the right wall and jump to the ledge with the pink carved doorway (marked "F" on the map). Go through the doorway to a new area.
You enter this map at the left center, through the doorway marked "G" on the map. If you have the complete STAFF, continue in this area.
[NOTE: If you have arrived at map 5 and don't yet have the complete STAFF (three STAFF SEGMENTS combined), then you'll need to get back to Map 3 before going on. See the note at the end of this document for instructions.]
Climb over the ledges to the right to a pit with 2 scorpions. There are some retracting ledges and a gold trapdoor (D25) above. Climb up on the right side near the save crystal (C12).
Shoot the reaper on the ledge above the gray door and then climb up there. Climb the ladder on the right wall and use the switch (S25) to open the gold trapdoor (D25) above the pit with the retracting ledges. Return down and to the left. Watch the timing of the retracting ledges and use them to climb up through the open trapdoor. Climb the ladder.
There are a number of dart traps throughout this area. First enter the small room to the right to get heavy bullets and a large medipak. Then take a running jump across the gap above the ladder to the room on the left, where you'll find a small medipak and dynamite. Climb back down the ladder and return to the right.
Use dynamite to destroy the gray door. Enter and shoot the reaper on the level below. Hop down, shoot a bat and then take a running jump to grab the ladder on the right wall. Climb to the bottom and make your way down and to the left, shooting 2 bats as you go. At the bottom is a locked door (D26). Use the DOOR KEY (from the underwater area, Map 4) to open it. Stand near the diamond-shaped hole in the center of the ALTAR and press A.
CUT SCENE: Lara uses the STAFF to open the altar and takes the SECOND PANEL PIECE (PP).
Exit the level through the blue door on the left (D27), which opens when you use the altar.
NOTE: If you missed Map 3 and came to the end of the level without the complete STAFF (three STAFF SEGMENTS combined), you can go back to get the missing segment. From the middle left edge of Map 5, go back through the doorway marked "G." Instead of taking you back to area 4 (with the underwater passages), it returns you Map 1 at the top left corner (i.e., the doorway marked "D/G" on Map 1). From there, take a running jump across the gap to the right. Continue across this level to the right, past two pairs of red carvings. When you reach the next gap, take a running jump across and climb down the ladder. Now follow the walkthrough above at the ** to get down to door "C." That will take you to Map 3, where you'll find the STAFF SEGMENT. Continue with the walkthrough from Map 3 to the end of the level. (You will need to go all the way through Map 4, the underwater area, again.)
