Golden Mask Overview & Walkthrough
In 1999, two years after Tomb Raider 2 came out, Eidos re-released the game as "Tomb Raider 2 Gold". The new version included the original plus fives bonus levels on a second CD. If you already own Tomb Raider 2, you can download the bonus levels free. (See the downloads page for details.)
The new levels comprise a separate mini-adventure entitled "The Golden Mask," in which Lara heads to Alaska in search of the Mask of Tornarsuk. According to legend, this relic bestows powers of re-animation on its wearer. This time Lara goes up against a band of mercenaries also bent on possessing the mask. The four main levels take Lara from an abandoned Russian mining base to the remains of ancient Inuit settlement, then into a tropical Shangri-La hidden beneath the complex.
Platforms: These bonus levels are available for Windows and Macintosh only.
Saving Your Game: Unlimited saves at any point on both Windows and Mac. (Savegame files are available in case you make a bad save, want to skip a level, etc.)
Secrets: As in Tomb Raider 2, there are three secrets in every level. Here, these consist of three golden objectscoins, ingots and a carved skull. Sometimes they're well hidden, sometimes in plain sight. There is no reward of ammunition or medipaks for finding the secrets; however, if you find all 12 secrets in the mission, you can access the fifth bonus level, Nightmare in Vegas. As always, my walkthrough includes the location of all secrets.
If you haven't found all the secrets and want to play the bonus level, you can download a savegame file.
The Golden Mask & Windows Vista, XP or 2000: You'll need to do a bit of tweaking to get the game to run under Windows Vista, Windows XP or Windows 2000. My Downloads and Tech Support Links pages include more information.
Becoming an Expert Raider: If you've never played Tomb Raider beforeor even if you haveI encourage you to check out my TR2 Controls and Gameplay Tips & Strategy pages. They include pointers on moving Lara through her environment, conserving health and ammo, using the menu and inventory systems, and much more.
